Ending Back Pain has several chapters dedicated to alternative and complementary treatments for back pain; yoga is one such treatment.
In a recent issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (2015), Dr. Cramer and his colleagues published what I thought was an interesting study pointing out that the popularity of yoga is growing tremendously. 13.2% of Americans have practiced yoga over the course of their lifetime and almost 9% (or 21 million people) in the previous year. 20% of them said they did yoga to address low back pain and 6% to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
There is still really no solid data as to how effective this modality is in treating back pain, however, there are certainly enough investigators out there who see if they cannot find that answer.
